Ukraine

Ukraine map Ukraine gained its independence on the breakup of the Soviet union in 1991 and is the second most important member of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Strategically very important, it is relatively stable and free of major ethnic tensions.

Population: 46 million. Languages: Ukrainian, Russian. Main religions: Eastern Orthodox, Roman Catholic.

CBM activities There were Christadelphian communities in the Ukraine from the early 1900s to the 1930s, but they disappeared during the Stalin purges. Visits from the UK started in 1992 and now number about eight a year. Classes are held in 6 cities, and many of the brothers and sisters are actively preaching on their own. A week long Bible School is held each summer.
