Moldova

Moldova became an independent republic in 1991 with the breakup of the Soviet union and has since introduced bold economic reforms. The economy is based on agriculture. Although it has close cultural and historical ties with Romania, moves towards reunification have been resisted by the Russian minority.

Language: Moldovan (Romanian).
Main religion: Eastern Orthodox.
