Kenya map Kenya stretches between the Indian Ocean and Lake Victoria. Employment is in tourism, coffee and tea. A former British colony, it gained its independence in 1963.

Population: 38 million. Languages: Kiswahili, English; others include Kikamba and Kibukusu. Main religions: Christian, traditional.
