LEVEL 7 One of the important people in the Bible story is Abraham. His name at first was Abram (God changed it later) and he lived in a great city in the country we now call Iraq. In our time, men have dug up the ruined remains of the buildings of this city which was called Ur. So we know something of what it looked like. We also know that the people there worshipped Idols - they believed, for example, that there was a moon-goddess. They thought she looked after their city. But Abram and his family knew that there was only one God - not the many gods that their neighbours believed.
God spoke to Abram, and told him to leave his home in Ur, and begin a Journey to another country. At the same time God made a promise to Abram. if Abram did as God told him, God promised that Abram would be the father of a great nation. Find Genesis chapter 12 verses 1-3 and read this.
